MX-AB Module Setting the IP Address
- The FW Murphy embedded remote I/O modules utilize dip switch settings to enable onboard firmware functionality for Allen Bradly ethernet CIP communication as remote I/O. When any C5, MX5, or MX4 FW Murphy module is first powered on with the dipswitches set as follows and rebooted; the unit will load the Rockwell Automation firmware for the product.
- Switch 1 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 2 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 3 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 4 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 5 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 6 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 7 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 8 = ON (CLOSED)
- Once the Rockwell Automation firmware is running, a subsequent reboot is needed to set the default IP Address of 192.168.0.100 and Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 via dipswitch settings as follows:
- Switch 1 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 2 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 3 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 4 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 5 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 6 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 7 = ON (CLOSED)
- Switch 8 = ON (CLOSED)
- Once the default IP address and Subnet Mask are reset, the dipswitches need to be set as follows and a subsequent reboot performed, to keep the Rockwell Automation firmware running with the default IP Address and Subnet Mask, but allow the IP Address to be changed.
- Switch 1 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 2 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 3 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 4 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 5 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 6 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 7 = OFF (OPEN)
- Switch 8 = OFF (OPEN)
- To change the IP Address, the user must use a Personal Computer with an IP address in the valid range of a 192.168.0.###, and Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 to communicate with the modules individually using Allen Bradley RSLinx Communication software via ethernet driver. Each individual module may then have its module configuration set to its desired static IP Address as defined in the Allen Bradley PLC ethernet remote I/O configuration.
- NOTE: Since the default IP Address is the same for all FW Murphy embedded remote I/O modules when rebooted with the above listed dipswitch settings, this process must be completed one module at a time on the physical network to ensure duplicate IP Addresses do not exist while attempting to set the individual static IP Address of each module.
